The PTA has introduced a new automated system to prevent lost or stolen and confiscated mobile phones.

Under the heading 'Lost & Stolen Device System (LSDS)', the new system will provide convenience for users who want to block their mobile phone in case it is stolen, hijacked, or lost.

"Complainants can easily apply to the PTA for blocking the IMEI of this device to prevent it from being misused," a PTA spokesman said in a statement.

Under the new system, a stolen cell phone will be shut down within 24 hours of reporting after the required confirmation.

How to lodge a complaint

To block mobile phones, users will have to apply to the PTA using the online Complaint Management System (CMS) available at www.pta.gov.pk. Once the appeal has been lodged, the complainant will receive a reference number on which the blocking application is successfully registered.

For more information or questions, users will be able to contact the PTA Consumer Support Center toll-free number 0800-55055. The number will remain valid for 10 hours a day from 10 a.m. to 8:50 p.m. every day

If a call is received, the complainant will be required to follow the same procedure to unlock the CMS and state his or her appeal number and other mandatory information given to them at the beginning of the cell phone block. "The user will receive an SMS from the registered number if the phone is not turned off," the PTA said in a statement.

Currently, users go to the PTA to block or block lost, stolen, or snatched mobile phones at its toll-free number, by sending an email to email@pta.gov.pk or by CPLC Karachi. However, after the launch of the new system, these links will no longer be available to users.
